$77,600 - $87,300 USD yearly
Khan Academy Kids is looking for an early childhood educator and learning-content developer to build and strengthen learning activities and assessments for children in PreK through 2nd grade.
Working on a small, interdisciplinary team alongside product managers, engineers, designers, and academic experts, the Content Creator will identify gaps in our content library, create and revise learning experiences in English and Spanish, and improve the systems that support content development. Content spans bilingual (English and Spanish) learning activities and direct assessments across early literacy, language, math, and executive function.
We are looking for someone who understands how young children learn, is energized by using data to make content better, and cares deeply about making early learning both rigorous and fun.
This is a fixed-term position with an expected term of 24 months.
Responsibilities:
- Author high-quality, standards-aligned learning activities and assessment items in English and Spanish for PreK through 2nd grade, using subject-matter expertise and knowledge of early-learning standards (e.g., Head Start ELOF, Common Core, state PreK standards)
- Map content coverage across the Khan Academy Kids library, building crosswalks that connect practice activities to assessments and identifying gaps in coverage
- Revise and improve existing assessments based on direct child assessment data and psychometric analyses
- Author and test new assessment items with children and educators in classroom settings
- Learn and leverage Khan Academy Kids' content-authoring infrastructure, and partner with product and engineering to improve authoring tooling and workflows
- Coordinate with creative teams on asset and audio requests, and improve audio-generation and quality-assurance processes
- Serve as an editorial reviewer for new and existing content in both English and Spanish
WHAT YOU BRING
- 2+ years of experience developing educational content or teaching, ideally with children in preschool through second grade. Experience with early childhood assessment (item development, administration, or play-testing) is a strong plus.
- Full professional fluency and strong writing and editing skills in English and Spanish, with mindfulness of dialectal variation in both languages. Must be able to create, edit, and adapt developmentally appropriate content while preserving meaning, tone, and cultural relevance across languages. Note that Spanish proficiency will be assessed during the hiring process.
- Experience working with early-learning standards (e.g., Head Start ELOF, Common Core, state PreK frameworks) and ensuring alignment and coverage
- Comfort using data and learner feedback to evaluate, prioritize, and improve content
- Comfort learning technical systems and working with structured content, including experience with or a willingness to learn JSON and SQL
- Experience collaborating with colleagues across product, engineering, design, research, creative, and academic teams
- Strong project-management and organizational skills, with close attention to detail
- Motivated by the Khan Academy mission “to provide a free world-class education for anyone, anywhere."
- Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.
